Healing Hope

God's Healing Power

"I've seen people forgive those who killed their loved ones. I've watched survivors and perpetrators cry together and hug each other through their tears.

Something like that requires the presence of God. I could never go to a single prison to preach without the power of God.

Without God, I would hate such killers with all of my heart.

But with God I can truly say that I love them." - Bishop John Rucyahana

Musanze Ministries

Reconciliation is on everyone’s minds in Rwanda; the newspapers, television, radio and government agencies. They realize that their hope for peace does not rest in absolute power, but rather, absolute reconciliation.

As Christians and followers of the Creator, we know that true healing and reconciliation can only come through the power of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:18-19. “Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ, and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.”

We will focus on evangelism, discipleship, church planting, and empowering leaders as the means to bring people into fellowship with the one true God and each other.

  • Evangelism, Church Planting
  • Discipleship/Leadership training
  • Let’s Start Talking (LST)/Friends Speak
  • Healthcare Ministry and Education
  • Woman’s Bible study groups
  • Learning Center

Train & Multiply

This organized method of training men to become faithful and knowledgeable disciples is a well proven method of ministering to and educating church leaders on the mission field. The teams in Togo have a license to use and duplicate this material for the use in Togo and Rwanda. The use of this material and the changing of hearts by the Holy Spirit have resulted in the salvation of literally thousands in Togo alone and the development of hundreds of new churches in West Africa. Train and Multiply booklets are specially designed to allow the same training in multiple languages. The booklet layout uses text with images created for the various cultures in which the training will take place.

The Method of Training Used With T&M

Elders/Leaders teach two or three key students on location. Students learn pastoral work in real life on-the-job action and experiences. Students can continue studies on their own while awaiting a regular meeting with the Missionary Leader Trainer. The students become trainers themselves, with new students of their own.

We believe that the use of Let’s Start Talking/Friends Speak in the Musanze valley will be a blessing to our work and the people of the region.

The government of Rwanda has great visions for their country. One of their desires is that Rwandans learn English as a second language. As a result, they have been aggressive in closing French language schools throughout Rwanda, replacing them with English language schools.

Beyond all of this, still forty percent of rural Rwandans are illiterate. Through the LST short-term summer ministry and the long-term Friends Speak ministry we hope to make an impact for both Christ and Rwanda.

Health Care in Rwanda

Rwanda currently has 1 doctor per 37,000 lives. This is equivalent to 40 doctors in the entire Oklahoma City area. It is overwhelming to imagine trying to care for over 40,000 people in a single stand-alone clinic. We have been praying for this ministry and how it might fit into the ministry of our team and fit the requirements of the government to be self-sustaining after our departure. We truly have no idea how this ministry will look and we know God will provide wisdom and He will open doors in Rwanda in ways we cannot imagine.

We understand that the things we plan for are subject to God’s approval. Brian has been blessed with new friends who have experience in the field of Missionary Healthcare and with their help have come up with some ways in which we feel we can aid in the ministry of our team and minister to the physical needs of our churches and others in the Ruhengeri Valley.

Praying and Planning

During the Robinson's first year in Kigali they hope to develop relationships with government and academic officials, specifically those in the Ministry (national department) of Health and those associated with and responsible for medical education in Rwanda.

We will pray that God will show Brian how he wants him to use his medical skills and what methods of healthcare delivery are best suited for the Ruhengeri valley.

Teaching Rather than Doing

The Rwandan people are a proud people and national pride is first and foremost in the minds of the government. They do not want outsiders to come and “do,” but rather to come and “teach”.

It is expected that when work is done it allows for two things:

  • It makes Rwandans better by teaching them to help themselves and their fellow Rwandans.
  • It is self-sustaining when our work is done.

Rural Mini-Clinics

Initiation of Educational services and the start up of rural “Mini-clinics” to educate local Rwandans in area of:

  • Diagnosis and treatment of malaria, one of the top 5 preventable causes of infant death.
  • Prevention and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases. 11% of Rwandan Adults are HIV positive, many untreated.
  • Providing childhood immunizations.
  • Nutrition education.
  • Basic health and personal hygiene education.

Working with the Rwandan Government

We will work with the Rwandan government to coordinate the following:

  • Proving adequate personnel and training of young doctors and paramedical providers in the Ruhengeri region.
  • Assuring that vaccines are available in the quantity needed to provide adequate care of infants and children.
  • Assuring that appropriate drugs are available for the treatment of malaria, typhoid, cholera and HIV.
  • Generic essential drugs are available at each mini-clinic for the treatment of every day acute illnesses.
  1. The kingdom grows through the preaching of Christ. (2 Corinthians. 4:1-6) Growth of the kingdom is dependent on establishing churches.
  2. How a church begins usually affects its growth. If from the beginning it is dependent on the missionary for everything, the members become passive and incapable of independent action. (Allen, 1962)
  3. The kingdom is more likely to grow when people do not have to cross racial, linguistic, or class barriers. (McGavran, 1990)
  4. The kingdom grows more rapidly as a people movement in a series of multi-individual, mutually interdependent conversions. (McGavran, 1990)
  5. The kingdom is more likely to grow when those who respond to the Gospel receive it in a way they could reproduce it. (Allen, 1962)
  6. The kingdom is more likely to grow where finances and property are secondary. (Allen, 1962)
